We are like family here at Summit International Flooring (SIF) and we want you to know us like family too!  We are introducing you to different SIF team members.  This way if you need anything (e.g. – advice, assistance) you know you can come to us first; just like family!

Name:  Alan Smith

Title: Regional Market Manager

What are your responsibilities with Summit International Flooring (SIF)?

Introducing designers and architectural firms to our carefully curated and unique carpet and flooring products. I really do enjoy giving my utmost to assist designers in their design needs. In tandem with the SIF team, we go above and beyond to provide the best service, because it’s not always just about business, but about people.

What SIF product are you most excited about today and why?

I think that I will have to say PLANKX! Besides the stunning and detailed HD printed, nylon carpet planks which really stand apart – it is also the latest product we’ve brought on the scene. PlankX has so many designs to choose from, you can have anything from a concrete or sleek modern look to bold and colorful prints!

Any special project(s) you are currently working on?

A nine-building conversion project that is considering another of our new products called R-kitex, which consists of solution dyed nylon carpet tiles. R-kitex is so very budget oriented and has decades of reputable manufacturing. This project is exciting as one of the designs involved is called Minerals, which I happen to like and was designed by BMW. I must admit, I became even more of a R-kitex fan once I started seeing more design samples like Grapevine in person.

What is your background?  What did you do before SIF?

My background is a bit varied! My training is primarily in acting, but for the most part, I have spent the past 18 years working in hospitality; ranging from service and management to running banquets and special events. My wife and I have also directed and produced the documentary, BORN EQUAL, about LGBTQ rights and marriage equality.

What is your current obsession? Do you have any hobbies?

My past hobbies have included podcasting and video editing. For some reason though, I’ve recently started teaching myself about Image Processing/Forensic Analysis. I absolutely love The Lord of The Rings trilogy, and I’ve always been a Star Wars fan. Though, I was not really a fan of Rogue One (I know, I know, I’m in the minority here). Right now I’m reading Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire and more recently I’ve become a fan of Stranger Things! After all that excitement, I continue to work towards making meditation a daily practice.
